Del Mar, CA–Temporary weekday closures of northbound Jimmy Durante Boulevard between Luzon Avenue and David Way are scheduled from late January through mid-May to accommodate retaining wall construction on the adjacent hillside, city officials said.
The project, located on City-owned property, will extend an existing retaining wall constructed of steel beams and timber lagging. The original wall was installed in 2019 as an emergency measure following a significant bluff failure. A recent geotechnical report recommended extending the structure by approximately 45 feet to help reduce the risk of future slope instability.
In addition to the wall extension, the project will include landscaping and drainage improvements designed to enhance long-term hillside stability.
Road closures will occur during the workday, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. During those hours, northbound traffic will be detoured from Jimmy Durante Boulevard onto Camino Del Mar and then to Via de la Valle.
Motorists are advised to plan, obey posted traffic control signage, and follow designated detour routes while construction is underway.
