Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Fire Department, working alongside the North County Fire Protection District, responded to a residential structure fire Sunday in Oceanside that was quickly contained, officials said.
Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from a single-family home in the 600 block of Hollowglen Court.
Crews entered the home and located a kitchen fire, which crews extinguished before it could spread to other areas of the residence.
A thorough search of the home confirmed no occupants were inside at the time of the fire. Fire officials credited nearby residents for promptly reporting the incident, allowing crews to respond swiftly and limit damage to the home, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.
The Oceanside Fire Department reminded residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of their home and near sleeping areas, and to call 9-1-1 immediately if smoke or fire is detected.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
