Escondido, CA–The Escondido Police Department issued 91 citations during a citywide traffic enforcement operation on April 20 targeting the leading causes of vehicle crashes, authorities said.
The citations were issued for violations commonly identified as “primary collision factors,” including speeding, failure to obey traffic signs and signals, unsafe turning movements, cellphone use while driving, and driving without a valid license.
The operation was conducted from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., during which officers contacted 94 motorists.
“Reducing crashes and ensuring a safe travel experience for everyone is a high priority for the Escondido Police Department,” Police Chief Ken Plunkett said in a statement. “We urge all motorists to drive with care on every trip.”
Officials said a similar enforcement effort is scheduled for Sept. 21 in Escondido.
The program is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, with support from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
