Carlsbad, CA–Carlsbad High School was placed on a precautionary lockdown Thursday after police received a phoned-in threat alleging that a firearm and explosive devices were on campus, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
Carlsbad police officers responded to the school at approximately 11:26 a.m. following the report.
Working with school officials, officers initiated a precautionary lockdown while they investigated the report and secured the campus.
Officers, assisted by law enforcement personnel from neighboring agencies, conducted a thorough search of the school grounds. They checked and cleared areas of the campus while the lockdown remained in effect.
Authorities acknowledged that the extended lockdown was difficult for students, staff and families, but said the precautions were necessary to ensure the campus was safe.
No indication of a physical threat was found on campus. The threat appears to have been unsubstantiated. Detectives are continuing to investigate the origin of the call, according to police.
