Vista, CA–A man in custody at a North County jail passed away on April 17 at the facility, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s investigators were notified that 53-year-old Eddie Faulkner, who was in Sheriff’s custody, passed away at the Vista Detention Facility.
“We extend our sympathies to the Faulkner family and those affected by this death. A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will support the family as they deal with the loss of a loved one,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Faulkner was arrested on November 7, 2022, by the El Cajon police and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on two warrants. The charges were sex offender failure to register, and postrelease community supervision revocation.
Faulkner, who was the sole occupant of the cell, was found unresponsive at around 7 p.m. Deputies and medical staff immediately responded and began life-saving measures including CPR. Paramedics arrived and assumed medical care. Despite these efforts, Faulkner was pronounced dead.
The Citizen’s Law Enforcement Review Board representative was notified of the incident and responded to the scene.
As is the protocol for all in-custody deaths, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit will conduct a thorough investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
