Escondido, CA–A 13-year-old boy suffered fatal injuries in a two-vehicle traffic collision in Escondido Saturday evening, The Escondido Police Department said.
Escondido Police Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a traffic collision at the intersection of North Broadway and Country Club Lane at 9:56 p.m.
Upon arrival, the first officer on the scene found several individuals with injuries, one critically. Immediate lifesaving measures were initiated by responding officers until Escondido Fire paramedics arrived, who then transported three people to various county hospitals. Among those injured were an adult male taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, an adult female to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, and a 13-year-old boy to Palomar Medical Center, all residents of Escondido.
Despite all life-saving efforts, the juvenile was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The investigation into the collision revealed alcohol as a suspected factor. One of the drivers involved, identified as 20-year-old Alexander Tito Oroz, of Escondido was arrested for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Oroz was later transported to Tri-City Hospital for medical release, pending booking into Vista jail on the charges.
According to the Escondido Police Department, it was disclosed that the deceased child was a passenger in Oroz’ vehicle.
The Escondido Police Department’s Traffic Division is actively investigating the collision.
