OCEANSIDE–A former California Public Utilities Commission safety leader has joined the North County Transit District.
Donald Filippi was selected as the North County Transit District’s Chief of Safety. Filippi began his tenure at the multi-modal transit agency on April 21. Before joining the transit district, he served for five years as superintendent of Transit Operations and Safety Section at the California Public Utilities Commission. He also worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 14 years rising to the position of manager of Operating Practices. Earlier in his career he was a locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad.
In his new role at the transit district, Filippi will oversee a staff of three, and work in concert with Transit Enforcement, and the agency’s contractors to ensure that every passenger is afforded a safe, secure, and comfortable transit experience. The Safety Division is responsible for accident prevention and investigations, developing and maintaining System Safety Program Plans, providing safety reviews of operating and construction plans, and working with public safety agencies on emergency response drills.
