OCEANSIDE–A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a truck leaving a compost facility in Oceanside Saturday, the Oceanside Police Department reports.
The Oceanside Police Department received calls, shortly after 1:30 p.m., of a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck in the 3200 block of Oceanside Blvd. The motorcyclist, a 53-year-old male, was not breathing. Emergency personnel was dispatched to the scene and despite life saving measures on the rider, he died at the scene.
The collision occurred as the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Oceanside Blvd. approaching the El Corazon Compost Facility. At the same time a Ford truck pulling a 15-foot trailer loaded with mulch was exiting the compost facility. The truck was making a left turn against the right turn only sign posted in the center median as the motorcyclist approached and they collided in the number one lane of westbound Oceanside Blvd. The driver of the truck remained on scene. An Emergency Truck Road Service company was contacted to lift the truck.
The Medical Examiner was notified and the name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The driver of the truck, 64-year-old Ronald Estes, was arrested at the scene for vehicular manslaughter and booked into Vista Jail. Alcohol or drugs was not a factor in this collision. A motorcycle accident attorney has been contacted by the victims family.
