ESCONDIDO–A man accused of shooting an Escondido police officer early Monday morning was found dead in a vacant apartment, the Escondido Police Department reported.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., police officers and allied agencies received information that the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Anastasio Rosas Jr., was seen in a vacant apartment in the 700 block of West Lincoln.

While authorities responded to the area, they heard a sound of a gunshot from within the apartment.
