Encinitas, CA–A man attempting to cross a street on Encinitas Boulevard Monday morning was struck and killed by a pickup truck, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report just before 6 a.m. of a traffic collision involving the truck and a pedestrian in the 1300 block of Encinitas Blvd., the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated in a release.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a badly injured 79-year-old man lying in the roadway. Fire personnel and paramedics arrived on the scene, and attempted life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
