Encinitas, CA–A man allegedly involved in a fight with another individual suffered a gunshot wound to the leg Friday night near a liquor store in Encinitas, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 9:45 p.m. near the Santa Fe Liquor Store in the 500 block of Santa Fe Drive. 

A 30-year-old man sought help at the Shell gas station located nearby after he had been shot in the leg. Deputies arrived at the scene and provided medical aid to the victim before Encinitas Fire Department personnel arrived to transport him to a local hospital for treatment, Sheriff’s Department Lt. Christopher Lawrence said in a release.

A witness stated the victim was possibly in a physical fight with another unknown male before the shooting took place. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a dark hooded jacket and black pants.

No suspects are in custody and the victim is in stable condition.

The incident is under investigation.
