OCEANSIDE–Detectives arrested and charged a man with attempted murder and domestic violence after he set his girlfriend on fire at their Oceanside residence Friday afternoon.

Detectives say Ricardo Gonzalez became involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend in the front yard of the residence, located in the 3600 block of Cerro Avenue. At some point during the incident, Gonzalez retrieved a gasoline can from the garage and began pouring gasoline on the woman. He then lit her on fire using a lighter.

A third party called police and reported a woman had been set on fire by a male. Officers and paramedics arrived to find the woman with significant burn injuries. The woman was treated on scene by Oceanside fire department paramedics and transported to UCSD Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. She is expected to survive.

Gonzalez was charged with attempted murder and one count of felony domestic violence. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
