Encinitas, CA–An elderly man is in custody on charges of stabbing his wife during an argument Thursday night at their home in Encinitas, authorities said.

The domestic incident occurred just after 7 p.m. in the 1000 block of C Street in Encinitas.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a neighbor’s  9-1-1 call about a woman who came to their door with visible injuries asking for help.

During the initial investigation, deputies determined a husband and wife were having an argument and it turned physical. The husband then stabbed his wife with a knife, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The 82-year-old woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds. Her husband was also treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

Clark Sandknop, 90 was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of attempted murder and felony elder abuse.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department policy, they do not release identifying information about victims of domestic violence and elder abuse.

“Everyone deserves healthy relationships. Love is not abusive. You are not alone. It is not your fault. You have rights. You can get help. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 9-1-1,” the Sheriff’s Department said.

Victims of domestic violence can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE (7233) or text 88788. They can speak to counselors 24/7 and confidentially discuss their situation to determine resources from a safety plan, emergency shelter and legal assistance.
