SAN DIEGO–A 23 year-old male was found shot to death in East Village just after midnight, San Diego police said Wednesday.
According to police, the victim has been identified as Derion Elias White of San Diego.
At 12:10 a.m., San Diego police received a call of shots fired in the area of Island Avenue and 17th Street in East Village. Patrol officers found an unconscious man in his early 20’s suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Medics were called and lifesaving efforts were initiated. The man however, did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives learned the male was entering a vehicle occupied by two individuals in the 1700 block of Island Avenue. An unknown male approached on foot and fired two gunshots at the victim, striking him at least once. The suspect then ran southbound on the 400 block of 17th Street.
According to police, the suspect’s identity is unknown, but he’s described as an African American male, approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was believed to be wearing a gray colored hoodie sweatshirt with dark pants. One witness described the male as possibly having dreadlocks.
