Vista, CA–A man is in custody after he attempted to steal a tip jar at a coffee shop drive-through window Sunday morning in Vista, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested 35-year-old Mylon Knox for attempted strong-arm robbery and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility.
Knox reportedly approached the drive-through window of Black Rock Coffee on East Vista Way. He attempted to steal the tip jar from the outside counter. When the employees pulled the jar into the window, Knox yelled at the employees to give him the money and tried to force the window open to get to the jar. The employees were able to scare Knox off, and he fled on foot toward Civic Center Drive without the tip jar, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Andrew Brumfield.
The Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter arrived and assisted in the search for Knox. An individual reported seeing the suspect near the Vista Library. The helicopter located Knox walking at Orange Grove and Crescent Drive. Deputies contacted and detained Knox who had removed his T-shirt in order to change his appearance. The t-shirt he was wearing during the attempted robbery was located, and he was positively identified as the suspect.
There was no loss to Black Rock Coffee, and no one was injured during the incident.
