CARLSBAD–It was a somber walk to honor a local woman and avid hiker who was found stabbed to death Monday by an unknown assailant on a popular Carlsbad trail.

More than 100 residents gathered at the Hosp Grove Trail East Saturday morning for the “Finish Lisa’s Walk” in honor of Lisa Thorborg, a Carlsbad resident who recently moved to the city from Portland, Oregon six months ago.

The memorial walk was organized earlier this week by Carlsbad residents Theresa Dooley and Angela Derby on Nextdoor, a neighborhood social media hub that exchanges information, goods, and services.

“Everyone is coming out today to honor her on a walk. But it mainly is solidarity and unity of the community and the people that loved her,” Dooley said.

“Not only we wanted to do this walk for Lisa, we wanted to finish the walk for her,” said Derby.

Their post generated an outpouring of support and love from other residents on the forum. Dooley and Derby decided to move forward on the walk and hike to honor “this beautiful woman and to support her family.”

Both women said the walk also sends a message that Carlsbad residents will not be intimidated or scared off the trail, or any other area in the city. They plan to host other events in honor of Thorborg.

Carlsbad police continue their investigation in search for Thorborg’s killer. Investigators are asking residents to come forward with any information that would lead to an arrest.
