SPRING VALLEY–One of two juveniles was arrested in connection with an armed robbery on Saturday at a gas in Spring Valley.

The juvenile, identified as 18 year-old Angel Virgen, was taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies. The other juvenile, a black male, fled on foot and was not located.

Virgen was charged with robbery, conspiracy, making criminal threats, and assault with a deadly weapon amongst other charges.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to 12:11 p.m. report of an armed robbery at the Valero Gas Station located at 2835 Sweetwater Road.

The black male pointed a silver colored .357 magnum at the store clerk and demanded cash. The clerk handed the suspects an undetermined amount of cash. There were several other witnesses inside the business at the time of the robbery. The suspects then fled on foot eastbound on Troy Street.

Deputies arrived in the area and began searching for the suspects. With assistance from Sheriff’s ASTREA, California Highway Patrol and a National City Police K-9, deputies checked the nearby neighborhood and several water culverts.

A deputy observed both suspects in the area of Tyler Street and Central Avenue. Upon contact by the deputy, the suspects fled on foot in separate directions. Virgen was later apprehended.

The investigation is ongoing.
