The driver of the Lexus was a seventeen-year old male from Poway. He was taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of reckless , Felony Evading, and driving on a Provisional Driver’s license.

A Deputy Sheriff from the Poway Station observed a high speed vehicle, a 2009 Lexus GS350, traveling southbound at the 15000 block of Espola Road. He attempted to catch up to the speeding vehicle by activating his emergency lights and siren. The vehicle failed to yield and a traffic pursuit ensued. The Lexus made a right-hand turn westbound onto Poway Road and later made another right-hand turn northbound onto Midland Road. Although the deputy was a distance behind, he was able to see the Lexus run two stop signs and three red signal lights.

According to witnesses, the Lexus made a right-hand turn eastbound onto Twin Peaks Road against a red signal light. Due to its excessive speed, it made the turn extremely wide, crossing over the painted double yellow lane markers and going into the opposite travel lane. The vehicle collided into the front end of a 2010 Ford Edge that was stopped in the left-hand turn pocket on Twin Peaks Road at the intersection.  It sustained moderate crush damage. The Lexus sustained major front end crush damage.

There were three occupants inside the Ford, one being a two-year old female. She was transported by paramedics, to Pomerado Hospital for precautionary measures. She was later evaluated and released. The driver of the Ford was also treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision. The remaining occupants of the Lexus were later released from the scene.
