Chula Vista, CA–An incarcerated woman is facing new charges after briefly escaping from custody at a hospital in the South Bay, authorities said.

The inmate, 33-year-old Jasmine Lucero was initially arrested on June 25 on numerous charges, including theft, robbery, and using another person’s personal identifying information. She is currently housed at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee.

On Friday, around 3:30 p.m., Lucero was making a scheduled appearance at the South Bay Courthouse located in the 500 block of 3rd Avenue when she started complaining of abdominal pain. She was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital in the 400 block of H Street for an evaluation. A Sheriff’s deputy accompanied Lucero to the hospital, Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Juan Marquez stated in the news release.

While at the hospital and unrestrained, Lucero ran from the room she was assigned and attempted to escape. The deputy who was escorting Lucero pursued her and called for assistance on their radio.

Chula Vista police responded to help deputies search for Lucero. Within minutes, she was located and taken back into custody by Chula Vista Police officers and the Sheriff’s deputy. There were no reported injuries.

Lucero is back at the hospital for a medical evaluation.
