San Diego, CA–An inmate at the San Diego Central Jail was arrested on suspicion of the murder of another inmate who shared the same cell with him.

Sheriff’s detectives identified 32-year-old Steven Young as the suspect in the August 22 murder of 46-year-old Richard Lee Salyers of San Diego.

Young was arrested and re-booked into San Diego Central Jail for one count of murder.

Salyers was booked into custody by the San Diego Police Department on August 18 for the charge of contempt of court.

Sheriff’s deputies found Salyers unresponsive in his cell suffering from traumatic injuries. 

The preliminary cause of Salyer’s death was strangulation, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
