DULZURA–A husband accused of poisoning his wife was arrested for attempted murder, Authorities said on Thursday.
Detectives arrested 27-year-old Race Remington Uto of Dulzura. He has been booked into the Vista Detention Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $2 million bail for the attempted murder and poisoning of his wife.
Uto is scheduled for arraignment in Superior Court East County Division on Monday.
Sheriff’s Department was notified of a woman who had been admitted to an area hospital with an unknown illness. Medical staff later discovered the woman had an extreme level of Thallium in her system. Thallium is a heavy metal, and in years past, has been used as a rat poison and ant killer. Because of the levels of Thallium in the victim’s body, medical staff and investigators believed her exposure had been intentional.
After an investigative effort in conjunction with the FBI, NCIS, and San Diego County HazMat, detectives from the Sheriff’s Department developed probable cause to believe the victim’s husband was responsible for her poisoning.
