CARLSBAD–An structure fire early Friday morning forced two residents in a retirement community to evacuate their homes.

Just after 5:30 a.m., Carlsbad police and firefighters were called to the 3400 block of Don Jose Drive after a report of smoke and flames seen coming from a residence in the retirement community.

Multiple engines from both the Carlsbad and Oceanside Fire Departments responded to the area and extinguished the fire. One of the residents, a 62 year-old female, was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Affected residents were connected with Red Cross in order to receive assistance.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
