Chula Vista, CA–A driver and passenger were killed after their vehicle veered off Interstate 805 freeway and collided with a wall in Chula Vista on Saturday, authorities said.

The Chula Vista Police Department received several calls, just before 10 a.m., regarding a single vehicle traffic collision into a wall near the intersection of East Palomar Street and the I-805 freeway offramp. 

Police and fire personnel arrived on the scene and discovered a Nissan Rogue exited the I-805 freeway southbound. Several witnesses indicated the vehicle proceeded straight through the intersection before colliding with a concrete and steel wall for unknown reasons. The vehicle had two occupants inside at the time of the collision. Multiple witnesses attempted to provide medical aid to the driver until officers and paramedics arrived. First responders took over attempting to provide lifesaving measures to the occupants of the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene. Due to the extent of the passenger’s injuries, she was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification to family members. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
