SAN DIEGO–The Department of Environmental Health has lifted the water contact closure for the Imperial Beach shoreline based on recent water quality testing.

Despite the closure being lifted, the environmental health agency still advises against water contact while the general rain advisory for all county beaches is in effect. Additionally, the water contact closure issued Novemeber 29, 2018 for the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park remains in effect.

The lifted portion of the water contact closure covers the Imperial Beach shoreline from Seacoast Drive through Carnation Avenue (including Camp Surf). This area was recently closed to water contact due to sewage-contaminated flows from the Tijuana River entering the United States.
