EL CENTRO–Construction crews have closed both directions of Cole Road at State Route 111 (SR-111) in Calexico for five consecutive days beginning Monday at 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day for paving operations, according to Caltrans.
SR-111 will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the Cole Road intersection.
Detour signs will be posted directing motorists traveling westbound on Cole Road, on the east side of the SR-111, to turn north onto Rockwood Avenue/Yourman Road or turn south onto Rockwood Avenue.
Motorists traveling eastbound on Cole Road, on the west side of SR-111, will be directed around the closure to turn north onto West Van De Graaff Avenue or to turn south onto Scaroni Avenue.
Traffic flow is expected to slow along SR-111 approaching the Cole Road intersection during construction activities and motorists can expect minor traffic delays.
Caltrans contractors began work in fall 2018 to resurface State Route 98 (SR-98) and State Route 111 (SR-111) in the city of Calexico. The project covers SR-111 from SR-98 to Ross Road and on SR-98 from Rockwood Avenue to Cole Road and will result in long lasting repairs needed to sustain a reliable and safe transportation system for the users who depend on these routes.
Construction will be completed in spring.
Travelers in the area are reminded to watch for highway workers and construction equipment and to Be Work Zone Alert. The construction zone will be enforced by the California Highway Patrol.
The $20 million project is made possible by allocations from the Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
