San Diego, CA–Thousands of cyclists hit the streets Thursday morning in celebration of SANDAG’s annual Bike Anywhere Day, marking the event’s strongest turnout since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) reported 10,010 visits at over 100 pit stops throughout the region, an 11% increase from last year.
Cyclists from Oceanside to Tijuana participated in the event, which featured lively pit stops offering activities, snacks, refreshments, regional bike maps, and official Bike Anywhere Day 2025 t-shirts. Registered participants were automatically entered into a Sweepstakes for a chance to win one of three e-bikes, courtesy of Rad Power Bikes.
Bike Anywhere Day is part of a broader effort by SANDAG to promote bicycling as a fun, sustainable, and healthy mode of transportation. The regional agency has organized the event for over 30 years and continues to invest in cycling infrastructure. Currently, SANDAG is building five new bikeways: Border to Bayshore, Inland Rail Trail, Bayshore Bikeway Barrio Logan, Imperial Avenue, and Eastern Hillcrest.
With more than 1,800 miles of bikeways in the San Diego region, officials say they are committed to expanding access and improving bike travel options.
Bike Anywhere Day is part of National Bike Month, and throughout May, SANDAG is partnering with local businesses to offer special deals to customers who arrive by bike. These promotions run through May 31.
