San Diego, CA–The California Office of Traffic Safety has awarded the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office a $422,000 grant that will fund a year’s worth of special operations and campaigns designed to stop drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the grant will fund impaired driving checkpoints, patrols, distracted driving, and traffic enforcement.
“We are grateful for the California Office of Traffic Safety’s support as we continue our efforts to keep impaired drivers off San Diego County roadways,” said Sheriff Kelly Martinez. “This grant will help us combat dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes and make our roads safer for everyone.”
The goal is to reduce impaired driving-related crashes and deaths, the Sheriff’s Office said.
This year, Sheriff’s deputies have arrested more than 800 people for impaired driving.
