San Diego, CA–A large-scale search operation is underway after a small aircraft with six people aboard went down off the coast of Point Loma, U.S. Coast Guard officials confirmed Sunday afternoon.
The aircraft, a Cessna 414, was reported down shortly before 1 p.m. approximately three miles west of Point Loma. The cause of the incident has not yet been determined.
Coast Guard crews have launched a multi-agency search effort that includes a Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Ventura, a C-27 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento, the Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter, and a small boat crew. Several local and federal partner agencies are assisting in the search for the missing individuals.
As of Sunday evening, no survivors had been reported, and the search remains ongoing.
