San Diego, CA–City of San Diego work crews began installing pipelines on Clairemont Drive and Balboa Avenue intersection as part of the Pure Water program.
The work will be performed at night to minimize traffic impacts. The portion of night work is expected to last approximately 10 days.
According to the City of San Diego, the work will be conducted between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday nights through Thursday nights in the intersection through July 17. Detours will be in place during working hours. During non-working hours, all lanes of traffic will be open through the intersection. The construction schedule is subject to change.
“We appreciate the patience from commuters and nearby residents and businesses as we continue to make progress on the Pure Water program,” said Juan Guerreiro, Director of the City’s Public Utilities Department. “We will strive to keep traffic disruptions in the area to a minimum.”
During working hours, one lane of northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained on Clairemont Drive through the intersection. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Balboa Avenue will be detoured. Drivers are advised to follow all posted signage and plan extra time when traveling in the area to accommodate traffic delays. Residents are advised that there may be overnight construction noise. Access to emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Once work in the intersection is completed, crews will continue to work northbound on Clairemont Drive to install additional pipelines.
Pure Water San Diego is the city’s phased, multi-year program that will provide nearly half of our water supply locally by 2035. Pure Water will use proven purification technology to clean recycled water and produce safe, high-quality drinking water. The program offers a cost-effective investment for San Diego’s water needs and will provide a reliable, sustainable water supply.
The largest integrated infrastructure project in the city’s history, construction on Pure Water Phase 1 is just over 55% complete with 10 major construction projects underway across the city. When complete, Phase 1 will produce an annual average of 30 million gallons per day. Phase 2, now in the planning stages, will produce an additional 53 million gallons a day.
