San Diego, CA–The County will host a second Apostille pop-up document services event for San Diego County residents on June 27 at the County Administration Center.
San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Jordan Marks, in partnership with California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber, will hold the event at the center, located at 1600 Pacific Highway, Suite 273.
The event allows residents to obtain in-person apostille services locally and will now include domestic partnership registration services, eliminating the time and expense of traveling to Los Angeles or Sacramento, where these services are typically provided.
In April, the Apostille Pop-Up Shop served 726 customers, issuing 1,885 apostilles and 32 domestic partnerships, helping San Diegans complete important documents for international use.
The cost is $20 per apostille document and $6 special handling fee per public official’s signature. Payment accepted by Visa, MasterCard, personal check, or money order.
An apostille certifies the authenticity of documents for international use, including birth, death and marriage certificates, educational records, military documents and other paperwork required for business or legal matters abroad. The certification verifies the signature of a California public official through the Secretary of State’s office.
Domestic partners are two adults who have chosen to share one another’s lives in an intimate and committed relationship of mutual caring. Under California law, registered domestic partners generally have the same rights, protections, and benefits, and are subject to the same responsibilities, obligations, and duties under law as are granted to and imposed upon spouses.
While apostille and domestic partnership services may be requested by mail, processing can take four to six weeks and may require resubmission if documents are incomplete. The local pop-up provides same-day assistance and on-site review by state staff.
“These apostille events have been very successful, and we’re grateful for Jordan Marks and his staff who have helped us serve the people of California in the best way possible,” said Secretary Weber.
Marks said the partnership reflects the county’s commitment to making state services more accessible.
“As your elected advocate, I sought this partnership to bring a Sacramento service directly to San Diego and save residents the time and expense of traveling out of town,” Marks said. “San Diego is an international community, and these events help our military families, students, businesses, and residents cut through red tape and get the services they need quickly.”
Previous pop-up events have assisted military personnel preparing for overseas deployment, couples certifying marriage documents, and international students verifying diplomas before returning home.
“Our Apostille Pop-Up Shop shows there is strong demand for this service in San Diego,” Marks added. “Working with Secretary of State Dr. Weber, we will continue advocating to make this a permanent local option.”
