San Diego, CA–The U.S. Coast Guard apprehended one suspected undocumented migrant about three miles north of Imperial Beach Wednesday morning, Coast Guard officials said.
Watchstanders at the Joint Harbor Operations Center received reports of a personal watercraft at 1:20 a.m. traveling northbound into U.S. waters. A boat crew from the Maritime Safety and Security Team Seattle was diverted to intercept the vessel.
According to the Coast Guard, the operator of the personal watercraft threw one passenger overboard while attempting to evade authorities and then carried out a series of evasive maneuvers during the pursuit.
The Coast Guard crew recovered the individual from the water and conducted a medical assessment. Officials said the person was not injured.
The individual, who claimed Romanian nationality, was transferred to U.S. Border Patrol custody in Imperial Beach at Ballast Point.
