Fallbrook, CA–A Carlsbad man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of the murder of his friend found dead in his home in Fallbrook, authorities said.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives identified 30-year-old Brian Bass as the suspect in the murder of 34-year-old John Kristensen. Bass and Kristensen were friends, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said. 

Deputies served a search warrant Tuesday around 10 p.m. at Bass’ home located in the 3800 block of El Camino Real in Carlsbad. Bass was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for one count of murder. 

The preliminary cause of Kristensen’s death was gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday to a home in the 4300 block of Rainbow Vista Drive in Fallbrook for medical aid. Upon arrival, deputies were advised by the fire department that a man was dead with signs of trauma to his upper body.

The circumstances and motivations of the incident are still under investigation.
