SAN DIEGO–The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health (DEH) has lifted the water contact closure for the Imperial Beach and Silver Strand shorelines.
This includes beaches from the south end of Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach through Silver Strand State Beach. Recent water quality testing confirms that Tijuana River flows are no longer impacting these beaches. This area was recently closed to water contact due to sewage-contaminated flows from the Tijuana River entering the United States. The ocean shoreline from the International Border to the south end of Seacoast Drive will remain closed until sampling confirms these areas are safe for water contact.
Due to further expected rain and potential urban runoff impacting water quality, DEH is continuing to advise the public to avoid water contact at all coastal waters for at least 72 hours after a rain event.
