Oceanside, CA–A County-funded psychiatric facility in Oceanside has completed its first month of operation, providing short-term psychiatric care to 31 individuals since opening, county officials said.
As of earlier this week, 10 patients were receiving treatment at the facility.
Staff began moving into the 16-bed facility in November 2025 for training, and the first patient was admitted on Dec. 29.
The facility is located on the western edge of the Tri-City Medical Center campus. The site is the first county-funded inpatient psychiatric health facility in San Diego County and is intended to expand access to behavioral health services for North County residents while strengthening the countywide network of specialty care.
“Adults in crisis are now able to get essential behavioral health care that is tailored to their needs,” said Nadia Privara Brahms, director of the County Behavioral Health Services. “By establishing this new service in North County, each beneficiary can access the care they need, when they need it, within their community.”
The facility accepts referrals from local Crisis Stabilization Units and emergency departments and is available to Medi-Cal members throughout San Diego County.
Patients receive care through therapeutic group sessions, health consultations, occupational therapy and optional sunset meditation sessions. The multidisciplinary care team includes psychiatrists, therapists and nurses.
The $27.6 million facility was developed through a partnership between the County of San Diego and the Tri-City Healthcare District, which operates Tri-City Medical Center. Exodus Recovery, a long-standing county behavioral health provider, operates the facility.
County officials said the center is designed to serve between 350 and 500 patients annually, with an average length of stay ranging from five to seven days.
Through partnerships with community organizations and healthcare providers, the county aims to build a coordinated system of care that promotes resilience, equity and improved health outcomes across San Diego County.
