SAN DIEGO–The City of San Diego on Wednesday announced the winners of the annual Recycler of the Year competition.

The awards were presented by the City’s Environmental Services Department staff at the San Diego Central Library at Joan Λ Irwin Jacobs Common.

“We are encouraged by the ways our local businesses and organizations are recycling and helping the City reach its Climate Action Plan and Zero Waste goals,” said Mario X. Sierra, director of the City’s Environmental Services Department. “They dedicate many hours to be more efficient with different waste streams and energy resources and we commend them for their efforts.”

The Recycler of the Year awards are presented to the city’s most progressive recyclers of all sizes in the local business and nonprofit communities. The City annually recognizes businesses and organizations located within the city that have implemented or expanded innovative and successful waste reduction, recycling and recycled product purchasing programs.

Winners of the Recycler of the Year award are: Café Gratitude, Cox Communications, Inc., Feeding San Diego, General Dynamics NASSCO, I Love A Clean San Diego, Port of San Diego, Qualcomm Incorporated, San Diego Convention Center, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, and San Diego Zoo Global.

The City provides local businesses with assistance in developing waste reduction and recycling programs with a free comprehensive waste analysis.
