Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Public Library is partnering with The Old Globe to bring William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” to local audiences as part of the theater’s annual Globe for All Tour.
Two free performances are scheduled for Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Community Rooms at the Oceanside Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway.
The production is part of The Old Globe’s effort to make professional theater accessible to communities throughout San Diego County and Tijuana, Mexico. The touring company features a diverse group of artists who bring live performances to audiences who may face barriers to attending traditional theater productions.
Admission is free, but advance registration is encouraged through the library’s online calendar. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Light refreshments will be served 30 minutes before each performance. Free parking is available at the library, although spaces may be limited. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for parking.
Often referred to as “The Scottish Play,” Macbeth tells the story of a noble warrior whose encounter with a mysterious prophecy sets him on a path toward power. Driven by ambition and encouraged by his wife, Macbeth pursues the crown of Scotland, setting off a chain of events marked by betrayal, violence, and devastating consequences.
The Shakespearean tragedy explores the corrupting influence of ambition, the struggle for power and the consequences of unchecked desire. Its witches, supernatural omens and haunting atmosphere make the production a fitting theatrical experience for the Halloween season.
Through its program, the San Diego-based The Old Globe aims to create an intimate theater experience that encourages meaningful connections between performers and audiences. The initiative primarily serves people who have limited access to professional performing arts, including those experiencing live theater for the first time.
The Oceanside performances offer residents an opportunity to experience one of Shakespeare’s most enduring works in a community setting at no cost.
