San Diego, CA–A coalition of local businesses and community organizations is launching North Park’s first-ever Juneteenth Community Block Party.
The cultural event is set to take place on June 19 from noon to 6 p.m. at the corner of Louisiana Street and Wightman Street.
Spearheaded by Louisiana Purchase restaurant in partnership with High Definition Entertainment, Black San Diego, and the Harvey Family Foundation, the event aims to celebrate Black freedom, culture, and achievement through food, art, music, and community engagement.
The family-friendly celebration will feature a range of Black-owned vendors, including The Write Juice, Catchher Ice Cream, and WakeUpCup, offering a taste of San Diego’s vibrant culinary scene. Louisiana Purchase will host a beer garden within the event space, serving small bites by Chef Quinnton “Q” Austin and craft cocktails made with Black-owned spirits such as Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey and Anillos Mezcal.
Entertainment will include live music, a DJ battle, a kids zone, and a spoken word slam poetry showcase. The Vision Culture Foundation will lead a live art activation and present a “Roots & Revival” fashion pop-up. Additional community partners, including Walk Away No Drama Today, San Diego Melanin, and Daygo Eatz, will also be present.
Speakers for the day include San Diego County Board Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe (District 4) and community leader Lefford Fate.
Admission is free and open to all ages. Entry is located on Wightman Street. Louisiana Purchase is located at 2305 University Avenue, San Diego.
