San Diego, CA–Broadway icon Mandy Patinkin is set to bring his “Being Alive” concert tour to the stage of Balboa Theatre on June 4 in San Diego.
Patinkin’s performance, accompanied by pianist Adam Ben-David, is part of the 31st annual Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival, also known as JFest, a month-long celebration of Jewish musicians, performers, and artists taking place from May 30 to June 30 across San Diego. The complete JFest program will be unveiled in Spring 2024.
The Tony and Emmy Award-winning entertainer will showcase his talent as an actor, singer, and storyteller for one night only. The repertoire will feature a blend of Broadway classics and beloved American tunes, including selections from his latest recordings on Nonesuch Records, “Mandy Patinkin Diary January 2018.” From Randy Newman to Stephen Sondheim, Patinkin will take the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey.
“For more than 25 years, we have dreamed of Mandy Patinkin headlining JFest. On Broadway, in movies, and on TV, he is a legend and superstar,” said JFest Artistic Director Todd Salovey. “This year especially, we are proud and excited to bring so many people together for an uplifting concert that celebrates Being Alive.”
Patinkin’s illustrious career spans theater, film, television, and recording. Notably, he won a Tony Award for his role as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” in 1980, and received a Tony nomination in 1984 for his lead role in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Sunday in the Park with George.” In addition to his solo concerts, he has collaborated with various artists, including Patti LuPone and opera star Nathan Gunn.
Apart from his entertainment career, Patinkin is a dedicated social activist, contributing to causes such as the Brady Campaign, PAX, ACLU, and the International Rescue Committee, shedding light on the global refugee crisis.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance of “Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive” start at $50 and will be available for purchase starting this Friday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.
