Fairfax, VA–Renowned five-time Grammy winners, the Blind Boys of Alabama, are set to make their lauded 2009 concert film, “Live in New Orleans,” available on audio streaming platforms.
Previously limited to DVD and video streaming formats, these long-awaited tracks capture the fervor, passion, and soulful spirit of the group’s live performances, seamlessly blending gospel, blues, and soul. The ensemble is joined by an array of special guests, including Susan Tedeschi, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dr. John, Henry Butler, and Marva Wright.
Recorded at the iconic Tipitina’s during JazzFest in 2008, the film serves as a companion piece to the Blind Boys’ Grammy-winning “Down in New Orleans” album. Helmed by producers Charles Driebe and Chris Goldsmith, “Live in New Orleans” artfully weaves together new compositions and cherished classics. The selection features songs from the “Down in New Orleans” album, alongside tracks from the Blind Boys’ previous four albums and timeless gospel favorites. Both projects were crafted as a heartfelt ode to New Orleans during its gradual recovery from the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
The release of “Live in New Orleans” on audio streaming platforms marks a significant milestone for fans eager to immerse themselves in the dynamic, and soul-stirring performances of the Blind Boys of Alabama.
