SAN DIEGO–The Balboa Park Conservancy gives San Diego residents and out-of-town visitors another great opportunity to celebrate the holidays under Balboa Park’s dazzling holiday light display.
For five days and evenings between Christmas and New Year’s Day (December 26 to 30), the annual Holiday Food Truck Festival will once again serve up gourmet food from 15 of San Diego’s top food trucks, along with free live entertainment and fun activities for families.
Food trucks will be in the park beginning at 12 noon, with live entertainment and other activities starting at 2:00 p.m. There will also be a rotating selection of games and activities on the Plaza, including giant checkers, hula hoops, bowling, cornhole, and giant tumbling blocks.
The Holiday Food Truck Festival is a great time to visit Balboa Park’s many cultural attractions. The adjacent San Diego Museum of Art is keeping its doors open until 7 p.m. on December 26 to 27 and 29 to 30, and until 8 p.m. on December 28, with special $5 admission, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Friday only). The Fleet Science Center and its Craveology café hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the festival.
Visitors arriving by car should park in the Inspiration Point parking lot at the corner of Park Blvd. and President’s Way and ride the free tram, which runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., into the park.
Attendees can avoid traffic hassles altogether by using Lyft, the event’s official ridesharing partner. All Lyft app users can receive 20% off two rides (up to $5 off each ride) with code HFTF2018 from December 26 to 30, for all rides to and from the park. Families are also encouraged to take public transit to Balboa Park. Rapid 215 provides a direct connection between downtown San Diego and the park. Purchase unlimited rides all day on buses and trolleys for only $5 on the Compass Cloud app at any time prior to boarding.
