SAN DIEGO–To support organizations that are the “heart” of communities, Wells Fargo continues its work with the Feeding America network of food banks to help provide 82 million meals across the country.

Feeding San Diego was recently selected to receive a $25,000 grant from the bank which will go toward helping put food on the table for additional individuals and families across the San Diego region that have fallen on hard times due to the pandemic or other reasons.

“We are incredibly thankful to Wells Fargo for their partnership at the tail end of a most challenging year,” says Ali Colbran, Director of Development of Feeding San Diego. “Partnerships like this are vital to enabling us to continue providing our services since the beginning of the pandemic.” Wells Fargo has supported Feeding America member food banks for more than a decade, providing essential funds for members across the country.

In 2020, Wells Fargo launched a Drive-Up Food Bank program, wherein the company helped reach families facing hunger due to the COVID-19 pandemic by working with local Feeding America member food banks to distribute food at some of the company’s branches and corporate locations. To extend this effort during the holidays, Wells Fargo hosted “surprise and delight” events by directing grants to Feeding America food banks around the country — ensuring there is food on the tables for people who need it most — and fulfilling upon the company’s commitment to help provide 82 million meals to families in need.

“Hunger is a year-round issue which is even more pronounced during the holidays. And this year, due to the pandemic, the need for food is unfortunately much greater than ever before,” said Joe Mishriki, North County Inland region bank president for Wells Fargo. “Wells Fargo is deeply committed to the communities we serve and we are glad to support Feeding San Diego’s efforts to help provide even more meals to people in need during this time.

About 82 million meals calculation is based on 1) Actual number of meals distributed through Wells Fargo Food Bank Drive-Up events and 2) Wells Fargo’s financial contributions to support Feeding America food banks July 20 to December 31, 2020. $1 helps provide at least 10 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.
