SAN DIEGO–Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) has named San Diego County Regional Airport Authority’s Chief Financial Officer Scott Brickner as its 2019 ACI-NA Finance Professional of the Year for Large Airports.
The award was announced during ACI-NA’s 2019 Business of Airports Conference gala dinner on June 12.
“The Airport Authority would not be the successful public organization it is today without Scott’s skills and talent,” said Kim Becker, President/CEO for the Airport Authority. “His keen ability to get ahead of and anticipate revenue and expense impacts is extraordinary. Moreover, his passion for financial planning has instilled discipline throughout the organization and enabled employees to make good, sustainable financial decisions.”
In his role, Bricker oversees more than 70 employees in five departments including accounting, airline management, finance and risk management, information and technology services and procurement. He helped to ensure the airport had an incredibly strong fiscal year 2018, with an increase in net position of almost $27 million, which was $25 million better than budget.
Under his leadership, Brickner led the execution of the Airport Authority’s last three airport revenue bond financings, and an additional special facility revenue bond financing, totaling more than $1.5 billion. The General Airport Revenue Bond sale in 2017 achieved the lowest borrowing cost for a bond sale in the airport’s history, saving an estimated $43 million over the life of the bonds.
“At a time when airports are financially constrained, financial professionals like Scott Brickner have developed creative solutions to meet their airports’ significant needs,” said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “As airports around the country seek to find ways to fund much-needed upgrades and maintain operations, this year’s 2019 Finance Professionals of the Year prove that a sustainable business model is key to any airport’s success. I congratulate Scott on his important accomplishments.”
The 2019 ACI-NA Business of Airports Conference was held in Scottsdale, Arizona. The conference attracted more than 600 commercial management, human resource, and finance executives from the North American airport industry.
