San Diego, CA–A 27-year-old male pedestrian died from his injuries Thursday night after falling from an overcrossing and landing on traffic lanes on State Route 52 in San Diego, California Highway Patrol San Diego said. 

According to CHP, the pedestrian was walking on Convoy Street overcrossing around 7:55 p.m., over State Route 52. For reasons under investigation, the pedestrian fell from Convoy Street overcrossing and landed within traffic lanes of State Route 52 westbound where he was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles. As a result, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. 

All lanes of State Route 52 westbound at Convoy Street were closed for approximately one hour while authorities investigated the incident. 

No other involved parties sustained any injuries. 

At this time, it is unknown if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A toxicology report is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

The name of the victim, a Chula Vista resident, is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. 

The California Highway Patrol San Diego is investigating the incident.
