Los Angeles, CA–Metrolink will temporarily suspend Orange County Line train service between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside stations from Oct. 26 through Oct. 30 because of forecast high tides along the South Orange County coastline.
During the five-day service disruption, trains will operate only between Los Angeles Union Station and Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station. No replacement bus service will be available. Weekend service is not expected to be affected, Metrolink officials said.
The temporary service adjustment is intended to reduce the likelihood of widespread delays and cancellations if coastal conditions interfere with rail operations near San Clemente.
By limiting service along the Orange County Line, Metrolink expects to maintain more reliable schedules throughout its system while reducing rail traffic along the vulnerable beachfront corridor.
The change is also intended to minimize potential weather-related disruptions for other rail operators that use the coastal tracks, including Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and freight trains.
Metrolink will continue coordinating with rail partners and monitoring coastal conditions throughout the week. Qualified personnel will conduct frequent track inspections, while crews and equipment will be stationed nearby to respond quickly to potential damage or other rail infrastructure problems.
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner service is expected to operate normally as long as conditions remain safe.
Passengers are encouraged to check the Metrolink website for the latest service information before traveling. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner passengers can visit the Amtrak website for trip updates.
