San Diego, CA–San Diego FC marked a major milestone on Tuesday with the grand opening of the Sharp HealthCare Performance Center, the club’s state-of-the-art training facility.
The event, held on the Sycuan Reservation in El Cajon, featured an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating the expansion team’s new home base for players and staff.
The Sharp HealthCare Performance Center is a key component of San Diego’s 125,000-square-foot soccer campus, designed to support both first-team and academy players. Notable features of the facility include a 50,000-square-foot advanced sports performance center shared by the first team and academy squads, five full-sized soccer fields, consisting of three natural turf fields and two synthetic turf fields, and a second-floor dining room and communal hub overlooking the fields, fostering collaboration among academy players, coaches, teachers, and professional athletes.
San Diego FC chairman and governor Sir Mohamed Mansour highlighted the moment’s significance, acknowledging the collective effort that brought the project to life in just 14 months.
“This is another important moment for all of us connected to San Diego Football Club,” Mansour said. “The opening of this wonderful facility marks the culmination of an incredibly busy period. I want to thank our club staff and partners for their dedication in building this exciting and beautiful space.”
He also emphasized the deep-rooted partnership with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, adding:
“This facility reaffirms that bringing an MLS club to San Diego was the right decision. No matter what happens this season, the true winner will be the city of San Diego. Together, we will create something extraordinary—a club that reflects the soul of this city and leaves a lasting legacy.”
San Diego FC is gearing up for its historic first match on February 23, facing the reigning MLS Cup champions. The club will then host its home opener on March 1, welcoming St. Louis City SC to San Diego.
Led by head coach Mikey Varas, the team boasts a strong roster, including Mexican winger Chucky Lozano and USMNT midfielder Luca de la Torre. With the new facility now in place, San Diego FC is poised to make an impact in its debut season.
