San Diego, CA–The 13th annual GOVX San Diego Half Marathon and 5K will be welcoming back over 1,500 half marathon legacy runners at their event on March 24.
Approximately 230 of these legacy runners are participants who have run every single half marathon that the event has hosted. The legacy program was implemented to reward half marathon runners who participated in the event for consecutive years.
Each consecutive year, from two years to 12 years, is matched with a unique reward, including apparel, backpacks, drinkware, commemorative pins, and hats.
The marathon will take runners through five miles of waterfront, four historic communities, three parks, and two miles of downtown streets and finishes in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. The 5K is a flat and fast course all in downtown San Diego. Over 6,000 racers from all around the nation and the world are expected to participate in the event.
“The month of the San Diego Half Marathon is also the month of my double spina-versary,” said Dr. Bryon, a legacy runner who will be running his 13th GOVX San Diego Half Marathon this March. “In March of 2000 and 2001, I had my spinal cord surgeries, and I relearned to walk over the months following each. Being able to do the San Diego Half Marathon each year is a celebration and a reminder to be grateful for my life and the ability to still be able to do this challenge.”
“Producing an event that not only attracts thousands of runners annually but has inspired 230 of them to come back year after year for 13 years is incredible, ” said Christine Adams, CEO of In Motions Events.
This is the first year that GOVX is serving as the event’s title sponsor. The GOVX San Diego Half Marathon and 5K showcases GOVX’s investment in this community and brings additional focus to the event’s support of the military, first responders, emergency medical professionals, and their families who are very predominant community members in the San Diego area. Active duty service members are eligible for a 10% military discount at registration.
