Los Angeles, CA–Caitlyn Jenner added herself to the list of a growing field of Republican candidates running for governor of California.

On her Twitter account Friday, the 71-year-old Olympic gold-medal champion turned reality television star posted “I’m in.”

“California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station of life, could turn their dreams into reality. But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision,” Jenner said a news release.

California Governor Gavin Newsom faces a possible recall this fall, if the collected 2.1 million signatures are verified by the California Secretary of State by April 29.

Jenner criticized Newsom for his handling of the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions that ‘devastated’ small businesses across the state.

“Small businesses have been devastated because of the over-restrictive lockdown,” she said.

In the next several weeks, Jenner said she plans to travel across the state to meet Californians, and listen to their concerns.

“The sacrifice is significant, but responsibility is great, and I can’t wait to lead, to help, and most importantly to disrupt the status quo once again.”
