EL CAJON–Heartland Fire & Rescue saved several ducklings trapped in a storm drain on Saturday in El Cajon.
The firefighters received a call at 1:30 p.m. to a report of the ducklings in the drain, located in the 200 block of Fletcher Parkway. They determined that there were six ducklings trapped under a storm grate with no mother duck around.
They were able to remove the grates and called for the assistance of animal control. While playing duck sounds on their phone to lure them out, firefighters and animal control were able to use a net to rescue each duckling one by one.
All ducklings are in good health and animal control will be turning them over to Project Wildlife for release into the wild.
