Vista, CA–A woman riding an electric scooter Thursday night was struck by a vehicle at a bank parking lot in Vista, authorities said.

The woman was riding the scooter at around 8 p.m. on the 1600 block of South Melrose Drive near Live Oak Road. As she reached South Melrose Drive, she crossed the entrance of a bank parking lot at the same time a motorist driving a Mitsubishi Outlander was exiting the lot.

The motorist and the rider failed to see each other in time and both the scooter and vehicle collided. The woman was run over and dragged a short distance until the driver was able to stop. The woman was trapped underneath the vehicle for a short time until fire department personnel arrived on the scene. After the woman recovered from underneath the vehicle, she was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The woman suffered several major injuries, but none were determined to be life-threatening. The driver remained on the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
