SAN DIEGO–An adult male and female Thursday were arrested and charged with the alleged murder of a San Diego woman, San Diego police said today.
Authorities say Christina Daniel, 32, and Marco Antonio Gutierrez, 29, were taken into custoday for the murder of 29-year-old, Jasmine Ruiz.
On April 20, San Diego police responded to a call of a pedestrian involved vehicle collision in the west alley of 4100 Wilson Avenue in San Diego.
Homicide detectives say Ruiz was under a vehicle with extensive injuries to her upper body. Despite lifesaving efforts, Ruiz died at the scene. After preliminary investigation, it appeared the driver of the vehicle intentionally drove into Ruiz and she was possibly physically assaulted prior to being pinned under the car. After an autopsy was conducted, homicide detectives learned Ruiz suffered a serious stab wound to her upper body.
Two males and a female with bloody clothing were seen running south in the alley where the incident occurred. As the investigation progressed, the U.S. Marshals, San Diego Fugitive Task Force, advised San Diego police they were pursuing a female fugitive with an outstanding felony warrant for attempt murder. The female matched the description of the female leaving the homicide scene.
U.S. Marshals and detectives had evidence that identified Daniel as a potential suspect in the murder of Ruiz. On April 26, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Daniel for her felony warrant in the area of 3700 Florence Street in San Diego. Her companion at the time of the arrest was Gutierrez who also had an outstanding felony warrant. Both were booked into the San Diego County Jail and Women’s Detention Facility. Detectives continued to investigate the case and were able to conclude that Daniel stabbed Ruiz in the alley of 4100 Wilson and Gutierrez was behind the wheel when Ruiz was struck and pinned under the vehicle.
While in San Diego Sheriffs custody, on May 5, Gutierrez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and felony hit and run, and Daniel was charged with one count of murder. Both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday May 9. The identity of the second male who fled the scene of the murder is still unknown.
